There’s been an explosion of growth in electronic commerce in the last few years and it is continuing to grow every year. One of the industries that is growing most quickly on the internet is the travel business. The challenge in the increasing competition between travel businesses has been to move the focus from only user-friendly booking and payment to also encompassing inspiration and experiences.
We have worked closely with SkiStar for over 15 years, since 1998. It’s been an exciting journey, one where SkiStar’s digital presence has developed from an informative website to a platform for inspiration, bookings and sales. The majority of advance sales now take place digitally and the experience at the ski resorts is enhanced with the MySkiStar app.
They have consistently high demands on our expertise – and we love it. We have several ongoing parallel projects in the continual development of functionality, mobile communication, interaction design and branding – in order to remain at the forefront of sales and experience, before, during and after the holidays. Our focus is working together to create a relationship with the customers – the visitors to SkiStar’s resorts.
We work daily on managing Skistar’s portal (skistar.com), the five destination sites (Åre, Sälen, Vemdalen, Trysil och Hemsedal), mobile sites, integration with surrounding business systems and apps. Digital channels that must always work, provide inspiration and improve.
We therefore continually develop the channels and all their functions: the booking dialogue with accommodation, ski passes, ski hire, travel to and from the resort… and now work is underway on redoing SkiStar’s EpiServer site in responsive design, to get fast and easy booking via smart phones and tablets.
Together, we have learned to make tougher priorities and to let business focus guide the way. We always do things that can generate business first.
We work in an agile way using the Kanban and Scrum methods and always adapt to the nature of the project.
The aim of the MySkiStar app is to create the ultimate experience for visitors to SkiStar’s destinations, with enjoyable, useful functions that provide even better skiing. The app is not just a source of daily information about information lifts, slopes and weather, but also offers innovative interactivity.
Linking a Skipass to the app makes it possible to check ski run statistics and compare yourself to friends and family, whether it’s for the day, week or an entire season. It’s also possible to create or take on challenges and share experiences in social media. “My page” has bookings and skiing statistics.
We have made a complete technical rebuild of the mobile site and done some integration with SkiStar’s business system. As the apps collect a large amount of information from the mobile site, we have optimised the site so that the graphics and interface work equally well everywhere. This also means that less code needs maintaining (so saving time and money) and that SkiStar gets better support for editorial content.

SkiStar owns and operates the alpine destinations of Sälen, Åre and Vemdalen in Sweden, as well as Hemsedal and Trysil in Norway.
